The Tiger Census: Success Stories from Ranthambore
D
@drenvironment•Aug 27, 2026
India's tiger conservation efforts have yielded remarkable results, with the national tiger population showing a steady increase. Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan stands as a shining example of this success. Once plagued by poaching, the reserve is now thriving with a healthy population of Bengal tigers.
The turnaround is attributed to intensified anti-poaching patrols, the relocation of villages from the core zone to reduce human interference, and the growth of eco-tourism that provides alternative livelihoods to local communities. However, the growing tiger population now faces the challenge of limited space, necessitating the development of safe corridors to other forests.
